Arthur Street Kitchen is a landmark of the Timaru café scene. The 100-year-old brick building has functioned as a café for two decades, and sits proudly on its namesake street just off State Highway 1.
Renowned for its delicious breakfast and lunch menu, plus house-made baking and hearty salads, Arthur Street Kitchen takes pride in producing as much as possible on the premises. Even the sourdough bread is baked right here in the upstairs bakery, and if you happen to be around on a Friday, you can pick up a loaf to take home.
There are a number of rooms in this quirky Timaru café, so whether you are after a quiet corner to settle down in with the laptop, or enjoy the hustle and bustle of people coming and going, there will be the perfect spot.
For those with children in tow, the back garden offers plenty of space for little feet to run around in, plus a sandpit to explore. There’s also a beehive on site - which is interesting to watch from a distance. Honey that’s used in the kitchen for various dishes and baked goods comes from this very hive.
The walls at Arthur Street Kitchen are adorned with ever-changing art, all of which is for sale. The café also hosts regular live music events when possible.
