Purveyors of the raw and refined, Deadly Ponies are redefining luxury in Wellington with the opening of their first store in the capital. The brand is known for their unique, sculptural interiors and the new location is no exception. The signature zigzag shelving — inspired by sculptor Brâncuși — ties together all four stores and takes form at 28 Ghuznee Street in luxe, tinted perspex. The soft tones, illuminated cabinets and beautiful leather bags are a welcome respite from the notoriously wild Wellington weather.
Deadly Ponies are no strangers to a weird and wonderful assortment of textiles; their archive is a tactile gallery of different leather treatments, colours and textures. Each season brings something new to the table, and the team remains committed to sourcing hides that are as supple as they are ethical and environmentally friendly.
Sporting this knack for experimentation, dedication to quality and expert craftsmanship, Deadly Ponies have delivered collection after collection of iconic leather goods, each with its own personality. Showing no signs of slowing down, Wellington’s offerings include a collection of luxurious, made-to-measure leather coats. It’s new territory for the brand, but it speaks to founder Liam Bowden’s strong creative direction and ability to reinvent what we expect from luxury design. It’s this strong creative direction, along with knowledge and attention to craft, that has earned the bags their cult status. Whatever Deadly Ponies brings next, Wellingtonians can now rest in the knowledge that they’ll be kept in the loop.
