A stone’s throw from Tauranga’s waterfront lies Sugo, one of the city’s favourite Italian-inspired restaurants. Born right out of lockdown into a time of turmoil, Sugo has managed to forge ahead and earn itself the reputation as one of Tauranga’s reliable and reputable restaurants, always guaranteed to deliver on flavour.
At Sugo, there is an appreciation that the best dining experience is one that delivers on all fronts. To be known as a venue that will make every customer’s night special, consistency is a must. From the food and drinks to the service and ambience, there needs to be consistency across every aspect before a restaurant can earn the reputation that Sugo is constantly striving to maintain.
Quality ingredients are always fresh and where possible, locally sourced. Keeping with the seasons (and to ensure things stay exciting) the menu changes often, however some staples remain a constant - and it’s not hard to see why. The beef cheek lasagne and the handpicked eye fillet are two of the most popular dishes, and for those less meat inclined, the potato gnocchi with buffalo mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and basil is surely the way to go.
While Italian ingredients and techniques are evident across the menu, the chefs aren’t afraid to go off-piste and be creative, combining new and exciting flavours together. Fans of tiramisu: have no fear. The tiramisu is another staple and certainly a crowd favourite, although the innovative dessert cocktails will always tempt.
As Sugo goes about delivering a wholesome and engaging experience to its patrons, it does so in a trendy and welcoming space. Employees are friendly and engaged, forthcoming with recommendations and accommodating what they can. Whatever your next occasion, Sugo will undoubtedly offer a dining experience to remember.
