Food can inspire positive change – and Puku Ora Eatery in Gisborne is a testament to that. Situated on Childers Road, this wellness cafe aims to bring living foods back into our everyday lives to build a healthier, more conscious future generation. Simply put, your puku is in excellent hands here.

Sisters Amy and Erana founded Puku Ora at the end of 2020, with the goal of making nutritious food more accessible. With eleven  children between them, they understand that a busy life can get in the way of looking after your mind, body and spirit. Instead of pushing for perfection, the sisters focus on the power of taking small daily steps to care for one’s inner being. This is a safe and judgement-free space that invites anyone in the community to adopt healthier eating habits.

The journey began with the Kotahitanga range, a selection of protein blends crafted in the Puku Ora kitchen. These superfood products power up juices, shakes and smoothies, and are complemented by a menu of health-conscious breakfast and lunch options. Recognising that everyone has unique health goals and food preferences, the cafe offers a variety of wholesome dishes tailored to a range of dietary requirements, from keto and paleo to gluten-free and vegan.

The fresh and hearty keto burger is a long-standing favourite on the menu, and a build-your-own salad bar allows for a quick, nutritious and customised lunch. The cabinet is crammed full of raw treats made in-house, a nice reassurance that wellness and dessert can coexist. Grab everything to go or hang out in the sunny courtyard for an extra boost of happiness.

Puku Ora is dedicated to serving food that makes people feel good – a mission that extends beyond the walls of their cafe. Each day, over 2,000 healthy lunches are prepared onsite and delivered to local schools to support students’ growth and learning. By sharing food and knowledge, Puku Ora is empowering generations of today and tomorrow to take charge of their wellbeing.
