As a sister café to The Grille, this breakfast and lunch destination is part of the Classic Motorcycle Mecca, where you'll find the most iconic classic motorbikes from around the world. Appropriately, the café itself also boasts a motorbike themed fit-out, making it a truly unique spot to enjoy in downtown Invercargill.
One of the first things you’ll notice upon walking through the door is the spacious interior. Though Meccaspresso launched in 2017, it was a popular nightclub in its former life. While it still shows off its original floors, there have been plenty of changes made. These days, you’ll find rows of café tables where the dance floor used to be. Of course, the expansive footprint makes it a perfect gathering area for large groups, so feel free to bring along the whole fam when you stop by for a cuppa joe or a sit-down meal.
When it comes to the menu, you’ll find yourself spoiled for choice, even if you follow a gluten-free or vegetarian diet. The Body Fuel is a particularly popular, gluten-free, and beautifully presented dish with pumpkin, kumara, pickled red cabbage, beetroot hummus, smoked bacon, and poached egg. For something even heartier, the Chicken and Waffles offers a blissful balance of salty and sweet.
They don’t mess around when it comes to caffeine either. Serving up NZ roasted Havana coffee, this spot has become a frequent haunt of locals who work downtown and need a quick pick-me-up in the middle of the day. They even offer a “Toolbox Breakfast Buffet” every Friday from 7am-8am for local construction workers, where you’ll pay just $20 for a bottomless breakfast with tea and freshly brewed coffee.
Overall, Meccaspresso is a go-to café whether you’re stopping by to see the classic motorcycle collection at Mecca, or just looking for a satisfying breakfast or lunch in the heart of the city.
