A green oasis nestled into Dunedin’s urban streets, Ebb-Kitchen bridges the gap between city and nature, bringing the best parts of each together on the plate.

The entire Ebb-Kitchen experience is inspired by the land, sea and sky, with native plants enveloping the serene garden atrium and dog-friendly patio spaces. This lush vegetation is complemented by thoughtful human-made touches: green herringbone tiling, terrazzo tables, an outdoor fireplace and walls filled with works from local and Aotearoa-based artists. With its association to nature, green is known to reduce stress levels and we can confirm this is a place our minds feel at peace.

Ebb-Kitchen’s homage to nature is not simply an aesthetic. The menu is guided by quality and sustainability, featuring partnerships with local, ethical suppliers such as Vern Paddock Project, WaeWae Permaculture, and Southern Organics to ensure the freshest seasonal ingredients make it to the table. Other suppliers include Body of the Year for organic sourdough bread, and Agreeable Nature for free-range eggs that use regenerative farming practices. Just as importantly, everything served from dawn till close is really delicious.

Breakfast and lunch is an all-week-long affair, featuring familiar favourites with a few elevated twists, ranging from bacon butties and Turkish eggs with whipped yogurt and hot chilli butter to rosemary fried gnocchi and a bakers board (great shared and paired with an afternoon wine). For those on the go, a cabinet of sweet and savoury treats, from golden empanadas to fresh salads and raw slices, beg to be taken away with your daily coffee.

Located at the base of Ebb, a modern boutique hotel providing a relaxed yet luxurious resting place, this in-house cafe and restaurant prides itself on serving good food to Dunedin locals and guests alike, with a focus on fresh, local and organic produce. And what better way to enjoy the best of the land than between the foliage of an inner-city garden?
