Sleek and simple, Staple Espresso speaks volumes about letting a product do the talking – and in this case it’s the coffee that’s got people chatting. Allpress users, the blend here is fruity and something a little different in the Wellington scene. Have it extracted into your favourite black or white brew from the simple menu above the counter, or take it away in wholesale form. Easygoing owners Nik and Rewi are happy to lay low on social media, and prefer the old method way of people finding out about them by word of mouth, which by the looks of things, has been working perfectly well for the young business owners.

With coffee the staple diet of Wellingtonians, it’s not surprising to see this place humming along throughout the day as people come for their long black, their short work meetings or the lunch-made-easy selection of cabinet food. Housed on the bottom floor of a business block, it’s not uncommon to see the guys behind the counter waving to their regular customers and incoming workers as they head upstairs.

High ceilings and huge street windows make for a light and bright space that can double as a mini gallery – got some neat paintings, prints or artworks needing showing? Owners Nik and Rewi are more than happy to support local makers by putting their works up on the walls and using the space as a late evening venue.
